Words, but more than words. John Lennon has become an icon for "fully alive, fully human". Not a saint and not perfect -- chuckle, chuckle -- that never entered his mind. But a man, a man with his music, with his poetry and voice. A man who grew into himself and into his voice -- who was willing to question and to stretch into new possibilities...
While it is useless to wonder how we and perhaps the world would be different if he hadn't been murdered, it is not useless to remember and to accept the burden of caring about this world. Summoning the courage to "imagine", perhaps we might also summon the audacity to roll up the "sleeves of our lives" -- and change the course of history. It is not yet too late.
Robert Daniel Smith was privileged to serve the homeless and marginalized for 30 years in Salinas, California. Together with his wife, Michelle, they founded an intentional community called the 'Companions of the Way', also in Salinas. Robert and Michelle are community organizers, Catholic Worker renegades, sacred activists, writers, poets, artists, Divine Mother devotees, and practitioners of Kriya Yoga as taught by Rev. Ellen Grace O'Brian of the Center for Spiritual Enlightenment. Michelle is also a Montessori public school teacher. Robert is also an ordained Interfaith Minister.
